Maoist camp busted, explosives seized in operation

Ranchi: A joint operation of police and CRPF has busted one Maoist camp, seized two improvised explosive devices, two country-made rifles and arrested one rebel in Lohardaga and Gumla.

Codenamed as Operation Up-Hills, the operation was carried out from September 13 to 16 in the bordering areas of two districts following specific inputs of Maoist movement. During the exercise, a number of villages Gope, Pahr, Bora, Kumhari, Jamti, Temarkachcha, Katia, Kerar, Putrar, Rorad, Bulbul and Saidatoli were raided.

Two police teams were formed in the operation. "Police arrested Maoist Balkishun Kherwar, a resident of a Kisko village, during the raid," said DIG Sampat Meena.

The police teams busted the camp where around 15 Maoists were suspected to be holed up. "The Maoist got the information about the movement of police, so they melted into the forests. But the security forces managed to recover a huge cache of explosives which were buried underground," said Meena.

She said in the past few anti-Naxalite operations, police had no encounters because the rebels had managed to escape.

In the Operation Up-Hills, police recovered two IED of 20 kg weight, two country-made rifles, wires, electrical circuit testing machines and uniforms.

Meena said police were launching operations against both the CPI (Maoist) and the People Liberation Front of India (PLFI) on specific inputs. "In some operations, we have got success against PLFI and in some against Maoists," she said.
